Building Leadership and Management Capability

Successful Leadership and Management development depends on establishing a clear view of what changes in management behaviour are required. To achieve this, Burton OD Leadership and Management programmes involve early involvement and commitment from the senior management team.

Here is how a typical project works:

Develop Programme Objectives

The senior team hold a workshop to identify current gaps in management performance and opportunities to improve. They agree on how they will be involved in the programme and what approaches would suit their managers.

Delegate Briefing

Senior managers brief delegates on what they expect to achieve from the programme - explaining the business and organisational context. The consultant explains the learning approach and invites delegates to contribute to programme design. At this stage, delegates are set a short project to gather data about the performance of their teams that will be used during the programme.

Modules - the Theory

Workshop based programme combining tutor input, individual and group exercises covering the agreed range of topics (eg leadership, communications, motivation, performance management, influencing). Each workshop ends with action planning and goal setting.

Actions - the Practice

The actions agreed during workshops are carried out with support from senior manager mentors and the consultant. Individual managers are given tailored support so that they succeed.

Programme Evaluation

The programme is evaluated by the delegates and senior managers and an action plan developed to ensure that learning continues.
