Reaching the Standard

In the UK, Investors in People is the Standard against which to judge your people management practices. It is well known and well thought of.

The Standard (and its more comprehensive version - Profile) can be challenging for any organisation, but there are clear rewards in performance and reputation.

Preparation

Ensuring that the senior team is clear about what it wants to achieve from Investors in People and that it is prepared to resource the changes that might be necessary.

Appointment and Training of IIP Team

Gathering together a group of organisational insiders - people who understand how the business really operates and have managerial or political clout. Training them to collect evidence against the requirements of the Standard, analyse the gaps and present the results in a compelling way to promote change.

Internal Assessment and Gaps Analysis

Collecting data from employee surveys, interviews, analysis of key processes. Comparing this to what is required in the Standard to identify any gaps.

Improvement Action Planning

Development of an action plan to fill any gaps and work towards Investors in People recognition over a period that ensures any change is embedded and working reliably.

Preparation for External Assessment

Briefing of managers and employees on the assessment process and the preparation of a short document to help the assessor understand the key evidence that will be presented.
