Internal Communications

Ensuring Employees are Fully Engaged

Matching the expectations of employees to organisational strategy can lead to powerful performance improvements as the whole team pulls in the same direction.

Capturing that commitment to the organisation's purpose is not achieved by keeping people in the dark or failing to encourage a real dialogue with management. But good internal communications also means ensuring that information flows are right - up, down and across the organisation.

Burton OD uses its unique model of internal communications to analyse an organisation's effectiveness and highlight improvement opportunities.

A typical project works like this:

Preparation

During this stage, the consultant will work with the senior team to identify what it hopes to achieve from the project and to carry out a rapid diagnosis of what they see to be the strengths and areas for improvement.

The consultant will also carry out desk research to identify current communications systems and work with any internal communications teams or representatives to set up the project.

Data Collection

The consultant will collect data via electronic surveys, 1:1 interviews and focus group activities.

During this phase, the consultant will liaise with internal communications teams or representativies and management representatives to ensure that there is a clear interpretation of the emerging data.

Analysis and Presentation of Results

Using the Burton OD model of internal communications and other relevant tools, the consultant will analyse the data and start presenting results to members of the organisation with a view to confirming the interpretation of the findings and producing firm conclusions and recommendations.

Improvement Action Planning

The consultant will work with teams and individuals to plan improvements in line with the finidngs of the research.

Implementation

The consultant will, if required, work with the organisation to implement the action plan - delivering appropriate training and/or process design and implementation.
