Recruitment and Induction

Recruitment - a major business expense

Recruiting people is a costly business - money spent on advertsing or recruitment agencies, time spent designing assessment processes, interviewing and selection.
Getting the recruitment wrong or failing to induct people properly risks losing that original investment and
compounding the costs by leaving roles unfilled and work undone.
So understanding what works and what doesn't about the recruitment and induction processes, for which candidates and new-starters, can provide improvement opportunities for the processes that save money and make the organisation more effective.
The Burton OD Recruitment and Induction survey is a standard instrument that can be tailored and branded to suit organisational needs. It looks at:
    • Why people were attracted to a job in the first place
    • How well their expectations have been met
    • Their detailed perceptions of the recruitment process
    • Their detailed perceptions of the induction process
The survey is packaged up with instructions on how to tailor and administer it. A set of automatically generated reports are included that let you unpick people's experiences of recruitment and induction to identify improvements. The reports enable you to drill down using a range of demographic options including age, gender and previous job experience. The questions used include opportunities for people to comment and make their own improvement suggestions. The range of topics covered includes:
  • What key motivators attracted candidates and how expectations have been met since recruitment - job factors, company factors, lifestyle factors, career factors, employment package factors
  • How well the recruitment process went - information provided, personal needs addresses, impression created
  • How well the induction went - clarity of induction, learning needs addressed, relationships developed, manager's participation, access to information, provision of equipment, informal support
The survey can be run periodically with recent starters to measure progress on improvements.
